Serves: 12Prep: 2 hrCook: 15 minTotal: 2 hr 15 min
Ingredients
- 3 cups (380 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 2 large eggs
- 4 tbsp (57 g) melted butter
- Oil for frying
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 3 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Method
- Mix flour, sugar, yeast and salt. Add warm milk, eggs and melted butter and stir until a dough forms. Knead 6 to 8 minutes until smooth and slightly tacky.
- Cover and rise 1 hour until doubled.
- Roll out to 1/2 inch thick. Cut with a 3 inch cutter and a 1 inch center cutter. Rest on parchment 30 minutes.
- Heat 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry 1 to 1.5 minutes per side until golden. Drain on a rack.
- Whisk powdered sugar, milk and vanilla. Dip the warm donuts and set on a rack to firm up.
Tips
- Hold oil temperature between 340 and 360°F. Too hot browns the outside before the center cooks.
